Frazer Center opened its atrium doors to our neighbor organization L’Arche Atlanta for their latest open mic night.

L’Arche is an international organization founded in France in 1964. L’Arche Atlanta’s mission is to “transform lives by building community among people with and without disabilities.” They do that by providing home-based services, community events, and advocacy for people with disabilities.

L’Arche Atlanta’s Core Members are at the heart of their mission. Core Members are people with intellectual disabilities who live together in one of two homes in Decatur owned by L’Arche. House Assistants also live in the homes, and all residents share in the household duties and responsibilities, and they reap the joys and fulfillment of developing “mutually transforming relationships.” (—larcheatlanta.org)

L’Arche residents and friends, including some of Frazer Center’s adult participants and staff, showed up at open mic night ready for camaraderie and entertainment.

All were invited to get on stage, though many preferred to play the role of supportive audience member. Performances included singing and poetry readings. The evening was capped off by a bagpipe player’s rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

It was a fun evening that we hope can happen again soon at Frazer!
